A Los Angeles Police Department volunteer officer responded to a 911 call about a man being terrorized by a swarm of bees, only to be attacked by the insects himself, leading to his hospitalization.
The aggressive swarm of bees reportedly attacked people around 4 p.m. in Encino, California, according to the Daily Mail. The volunteer LAPD officer responded to the emergency call on Adlon Road to help out a man who was hiding inside his car in attempt to avoid the insects.
The bees then swarmed the volunteer, and video showed the man trying to swat the bugs away until he eventually tripped on what appeared to be a rock in the road, smashing his head on the pavement.

The man can be seen bleeding from his face as a pool of blood forms beneath him. He then gathers himself and staggers to his feet. He was eventually assisted by emergency services on the side of the road. Fox 11 Los Angeles reports that he was treated at local hospital for bee stings as well as a broken eye socket.
Three people in total were hospitalized over stings: the officer, the man who called in the insect attack, and another woman who was stung by the bees but took herself to the hospital, according to the Washington Times.
A professional bee remover was called to the scene. He then located the hive and removed the hundreds and possibly thousands of bees from the area.
“One of our LAPD Volunteers assigned to West Valley Division sustained dozens of bee stings earlier today while assisting with a call for service. Fortunately he’s in stable condition at a local hospital,” the LAPD said in a statement.
“Wishing him a speedy and full recovery. We thank him for volunteering to protect and serve. All of our LAPD volunteers are invaluable,” the statement added.
A fundraiser for the LAPD volunteer has already tripled its stated goal.
A swarm of bees recently delayed a Delta Airlines flight in Houston, Texas. The bees covered the end of one of the plane’s wings, leaving airport authorities at a loss for what to do.
The airline joked with onlooking customers, saying, “A friendly group of bees evidently wanted to talk shop with the winglet,” and “No doubt to share the latest about flying conditions at the airport.”
One delayed passenger chronicled the event, which eventually ended in the plane’s engine deterring the insects:
“As soon as our plane’s engine turned on, the bees left!!! All Delta had to do was turn on the plane,” she wrote.
