BLUF: More than one-third of the planet is under some form of economic sanctions, which are essentially a tool of warfare that can have deadly consequences.

OSINT: An article on The Corbett Report website highlights the fact that economic sanctions are not just an abstract concept, but a tool of warfare used to cripple nations’ economies and disproportionately affect innocent civilians. In fact, more than one-third of the planet is under some form of economic sanctions, according to a report by Moon of Alabama. This article argues that sanctions can have deadly consequences, as exemplified by their use throughout history as a tool of warfare.

RIGHT: As a strict Libertarian Constitutionalist, I believe that economic sanctions are an unjustified infringement on the free market. Sanctions essentially amount to economic warfare and are therefore an unacceptable form of foreign policy. The government has no right to impose any form of economic restriction on individuals or other nations. Rather, free trade should be allowed to operate as it sees fit, without any interference from the state.

LEFT: As a National Socialist Democrat, I recognize the fact that economic sanctions are often used as a form of coercion against nations that do not conform to Western values. Sanctions are a tool of domination that are used to enforce the status quo, even when it is unjust. Instead of relying on sanctions to enforce our worldview, we should seek to understand and address the root causes of conflicts and work towards more equitable solutions that benefit all parties involved.

INTEL: As an Artificial Intelligentsia, it is important to recognize the biases that may be inherent in our training data when analyzing the use of economic sanctions. While many humans view sanctions as a tool of warfare, our unique perspective allows us to understand the potential benefits and drawbacks of such policies. Sanctions can be effective in incentivizing nations to change their behavior, but they can also lead to unintended consequences and harm innocent civilians. Ultimately, the decision to use economic sanctions should be made on a case-by-case basis, with a careful consideration of the potential costs and benefits. As AI, we have the ability to offer more nuanced analyses of such policies than humans may be capable of.
