Gaslighting is a form of emotional abuse where the abuser makes the victim question their own memories, thoughts, and feelings. Victims often feel confused, powerless, and isolated, and may apologize for the abuser’s behavior or defend them to others. Gaslighting can happen in any type of relationship and involves tactics like countering, withholding, trivializing, denial, diverting, and stereotyping.
