BLUF: Researchers at the University of Arizona have found salt crystals in a sample from an S-type asteroid, suggesting that many asteroids in the solar system may contain water. This discovery supports the theory that water on Earth may have arrived through asteroid impacts during its early development. The study analyzed samples from asteroid Itokawa, ruling out contamination as the source of the salt crystals. This finding challenges previous beliefs that asteroids were unlikely sources of water on Earth and provides new insights into the delivery of water to our planet.
