BLUF: Researchers have developed a small protein called E9 nanobody that can bind to glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in the brain to visualize neuroinflammation, which is crucial for understanding diseases like Alzheimer’s. The study investigated different variations of the nanobody fused with a brain shuttle peptide for efficient delivery across the blood-brain barrier but found challenges in distinguishing neuroinflammatory lesions using PET imaging in a rat model. However, this research contributes to the exploration of protein molecules as PET tracers for imaging neuropathology.
