BLUF: A thief in Northeast England attempted a robbery with a knife but was trapped by a shopkeeper who activated the store’s metal roller shutters, forcing the thief to make an unsuccessful getaway and ultimately resulting in his arrest and a prison sentence.
In a recent incident in Durham City, England, a man named Malcolm Trimble attempted a robbery at a convenience store with a knife. The shopkeeper, determined not to be taken advantage of, activated the store’s metal roller shutters, blocking all exits. Despite attempting an escape, Trimble’s upper half, along with his stolen beer, was trapped inside the store while his lower half made it outside. The shopkeeper called the police, and in the three minutes it took for them to arrive, Trimble enjoyed a failed attempt at freedom by cracking open a cold beer. He was subsequently arrested, convicted for attempted robbery and possession of a knife, and sentenced to three years and four months in jail. This incident serves as a reminder that crime does not pay.
