BLUF: This series of essays aims to shed light on the American Founders who greatly influenced the original Constitution as amended by the Bill of Rights. The essays provide concise summaries of the lives and contributions of significant individuals involved in the drafting and ratifying processes. The purpose is to educate readers further on the “supreme Law of the Land.” Preference is given to the featured Founders who are often overshadowed by the prominence of James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and George Washington. The series also seeks to dispel misconceptions and biases surrounding certain historical events, such as the debate on Congress’ authority to charter a national bank, and highlight the role of Edmund Randolph in shaping the Constitution. The political spectrum during the constitutional debates is outlined, and the Founders’ positions are examined within a broader coalition of diverse views and negotiations, rather than through the limited lens of a conservative counterrevolution. It is essential to appreciate the nuances and historical context to gain a more accurate understanding of the Constitution and its creators.
