BLUF: A new lactic acid bacterium with unique growth properties and fructose preference was discovered in fermented vegetable extracts from Japan. The bacterium is difficult to grow on agar medium and shows optimal growth at pH 4.5-5.0. It is most closely related to the Apilactobacillus ozensis strain and has been classified as a new genus called Philodulcilactobacillus myokoensis.
