BLUF: Central bank digital currencies pose a threat to personal liberties as they enable governments to monitor and control transactions, leading to the establishment of a social credit system. China already has such a system in place, where citizens with low scores are denied travel privileges. It is not far-fetched to consider a similar system in the US, with mandates and restrictions imposed in the name of environmentalism and democracy. The government, with the help of social credit systems and censorship, can limit individual freedom and control dissent.
