BLUF: This article is a preregistered replication study that aims to investigate the ego-depletion effect and its potential moderation by willpower mindset, addressing challenges and concerns regarding the replicability and robustness of previous findings in the field. The original study by Job et al. (2010) proposed that one’s belief about the limited nature of willpower, known as willpower mindset, moderates the ego-depletion effect, contradicting the dominant strength model of self-control. However, concerns were raised about the sample size, statistical analysis, and theoretical implications of the original study. Therefore, this replication study seeks to provide more reliable evidence on the role of willpower mindset in ego-depletion effects.
