BLUF: John Adams, although absent from the Constitutional Convention, played a crucial role in the Constitution’s creation by laying the groundwork for its principles, outlining a government structure, and offering valuable insights through his writings and experiences. Adams’ contributions guided the framers in understanding the goals and principles, resulting in a mix of democratic, aristocratic, and monarchical features in the government structure, as well as the adoption of a bicameral legislature and an independent judicial system. His pamphlet “Thoughts on Government” influenced the framers’ decisions regarding the structure of the legislature, election process, and executive powers. Additionally, the Massachusetts Constitution served as a reference point for the framers, with many ideas and wording borrowed from it.
