BLUF: Private prison company CoreCivic uses torture as retaliation against immigrants who speak out about detention conditions in three facilities, according to advocates and detainees. Practices such as extreme solitary confinement, medical neglect, forceful transfers, threats of removal, and the use of “torture rooms” are employed to maintain contracts with the government. These practices violate the Convention Against Torture and the principle that detention should be a last resort. The asylum process is flawed, credible fear interviews are inadequate, and people fear retaliation if they complain about their conditions.
