BLUF: The National Economic Security and Recovery Act (NESARA) is a proposed set of economic reforms for the United States that includes replacing income tax with a national sales tax, abolishing compound interest on secured loans, and returning to a bimetallic currency.
The National Economic Security and Recovery Act (NESARA) was proposed in the 1990s by Harvey Francis Barnard. It aims to reform the United States’ economy by implementing changes such as the replacement of income tax with a national sales tax, getting rid of compound interest on secured loans, and reintroducing a bimetallic currency. The intention of these reforms is to result in 0% inflation and create a more stable economy. However, the proposals were never introduced before Congress.
In the early 2000s, NESARA gained more recognition as a conspiracy theory which was promoted by internet personality Shaini Candace Goodwin, also known as “Dove of Oneness.” Goodwin claimed that the act had already been passed with additional provisions under the name National Economic Security and Reformation Act, but was suppressed by the George W. Bush administration and the Supreme Court. Goodwin’s conspiracy emails were translated into multiple languages and gained a significant following online. To extend the proposed NESARA reforms beyond the US and to the rest of the world, some followers have adopted the name GESARA, which stands for Global Economic Security and Recovery Act or Global Economic Security and Reformation Act.
