BLUF: Our present challenges foretell a turning point in our national history where we must either face them or allow continued decline, partially resulting from our current political apathy and infighting.

INTELWAR BLUF: The looming challenges that we face are formidable. Can we rise above them or are we pathing a trajectory of decline? According to Nixon-era economic advisor Herb Stein’s principle, unsustainability will not prevail indefinitely. For some time, we have been riding on the momentum of older, perhaps more astute times and systems. However, in 2024, the cost of the present indifference, divisive politics, and inefficiency will surface. The forthcoming year could bring the culmination of existing precarious notions, occurrences, and forces that have potential to either submerge us or be acknowledged and resolved. Divisive politics have been fueled further by unchecked corporations. Recovery means balancing our capitalist tendencies with social causes, ensuring fairness, inclusivity, and equitable opportunity for all.

Additionally, consideration should be given to the past, learning from it to avoid repeating mistakes. The current environment can be compared to a “Neronian age” indicating an era marked by perceived extravagance, tyranny, and chaos. The choice to recover requires understanding of our past and present conditions, leading to informed actions. This analysis, devoid of bias and partisanship, aims at broadening the understanding of the situation at hand.
