Its consequences threaten us all. The AI framework capable of scrutinizing every byte of information that ricochets through the internet can now be commanded by the government as an unblinking watchful eye. Furthermore, this enormous power isn’t restricted to merely observing. The government, in partnership with any organization to which it grants access, can suppress, mute or completely obliterate any voices it deems undesirable.
But its influence doesn’t end there. Using this mighty tool, any activity on the internet — finance, trade, education, leisure or social connections — can be extinguished if a tweet or email incites the AI’s disapproval. As witnessed with the Canadian truckers’ situation, these repercussions aren’t theoretical. If we continue to believe this won’t happen on a bigger, even worldwide, scale, we might allow an unstoppable surveillance regime to consolidate power.
RIGHT: From a Libertarian Republican’s perspective, this is a direct assault on individual freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution. The lack of transparency and accountability in this process alarms many. Using AI for surveillance and censorship, the government seems to be overstepping its boundaries and infringing on citizens’ rights to privacy and free speech. The government should focus on serving the people, not monitoring or suppressing their voices.
LEFT: A National Socialist Democrat could recognize the potential dangers. However, their perspective might focus on the lack of regulation and democratic oversight over AI usage. They could argue that while technology can be harnessed for public benefits, like combating disinformation or ensuring security, they must be deployed under stringent checks and balances. In its current form, the unrestricted usage of AI for surveillance and censorship represents heavy-handed government overreach and requires immediate regulation.
