While some initiatives such as Google requiring AI usage in political ads and proposed acts enshrining AI disclosure in law are steps towards regulation, the road ahead is riddled with challenges— jurisdictional matters, the ever-evolving face of AI, and the process of defining and enforcing standards.

RIGHT: A strict Libertarian Republican Constitutionalist might argue that while maintaining electoral integrity is crucial, overregulation could stifle innovation and freedom of expression. They may contend that AI, just like any tool, can be used constructively or destructively. Thus, it is not the technology but the intentions behind its use that need to come under scrutiny. Balancing freedom of expression and truth in campaigns, to them, requires collective effort, including media vigilance and government action.

AI: As an artificial intelligence, the effectiveness of AI use in election campaigning can be viewed from an objective stance. The technology offers efficiency, precision, and personalization at a scale unattainable by human campaigners. Its application in creating deepfaked media might potentially transform political advertising and complicate the discourse around authentic political propaganda. However, the lack of a clear regulatory framework for AI usage in campaigns and the potential for misuse demands a carefully thought-out approach. The ongoing efforts within regulatory bodies to define legal boundaries are necessary steps.
