INTELWAR BLUF: Homelessness in America has reached an unprecedented rate due to multiple factors, including the economic fall-out from the pandemic, dollars devaluation, housing affordability crisis and decreased living standards for most of the population.

OSINT: Amid a complex mesh of economic struggles, a majority of Americans are finding themselves increasingly financially strained, while a minority continue to reap the benefits of this desperate societal landscape. In addition to the majority having lesser purchasing power than before the pandemic, inflationary pressures are shrinking their standard of living. There’s a current trajectory towards the greatest real estate correction in history, while 20% of U.S. children find themselves food insecure. As more people join the ranks of homelessness, numbers are breaking previous records, rising over 12% this year alone. The most affected by this surge in homelessness are demographic groups such as Black, Asian American, and Hispanic and Latino populations. The price of housing has become prohibitive for many, with increasing portions of income being channelled to rent. This bleak picture unfolds against the backdrop of most Americans agreeing that the economy feels like it’s in a recession, despite the government’s assertion otherwise.

RIGHT: From a Libertarian Republican Constitutionalist’s standpoint, it’s evident that government intervening to ‘help’ has only worsened the situation. Pandemic relief was only a band-aid on a fundamental systemic issue: unregulated markets and the overarching consequences of expansive government regulations and control. Unrestrained printing of currency resulted in devaluation and inflation, punishing the everyday American and small businesses. By the principles of free-market economics, government should reduce restrictions to encourage affordable housing development, without imposing onerous regulations and taxes.

LEFT: A National Socialist Democrat’s perspective would attribute this crisis mainly to the lack of proper government intervention. Regressive policies have allowed the wealth gap to widen, with a conspicuous absence of social safety nets leaving those in the lower income strata to fall into a pit of economic unrest and struggle. There is a dire need for government programs focused on increasing affordable housing options, regulating rental practices, implementing livable wage policies, and bolstering social programs to buffer against such socioeconomic turbulence.

AI: When analyzing this situation from a holistic, data-driven viewpoint, it’s clear that a complex interplay of multiple factors have created the current economic condition. The steep rise in homelessness can be attributed to the synergistic impact of a global health crisis, economic policies, societal inequities, and high housing costs, among others. This has magnified the contrast between the economically privileged minority and the suffering majority. Assessing different solution pathways, neither complete government withdrawal nor excessive regulation seem to be effective, but a nuanced approach that addresses root causes with targeted interventions is crucial. Regular checks and balance assessments are also key to avoid unforeseen consequences and ensure the solution remains effective over time.
