A pair of hapless teenage carjackers chose a victim who decided to fight back earlier this month on a downtown Philadelphia street — and they took off running when the tables turned on them.
What are the details?
A man parked his car in the 1000 block of Race Street just before 4 p.m. on May 7, exited the vehicle, and began to walk away from it, police said.
The suspects followed the man, snatched his keys from his hand, and ran back to his car, police said, adding that one suspect got into the car and tried to drive off, police said.
But the victim wasn’t about to give up his property without a fight.
Police said the man pulled the one suspect from his car after a brief struggle and also got his keys back.
With that, both suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction, police said.
What do we know about the suspects?
One suspect is described as a black male in his teens with a thin build and wearing a knit hat that has a skull and crossbones on it, dark jacket, blue Adidas sweatpants, and white sneakers, police said, adding that he also was carrying a backpack.
The other suspect — who entered the victim’s car — is described as a black male in his teens with a thin build and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black sneakers, police said.
Police said they’re looking for the pair, and those who see the suspects should not approach them. Instead, police said those who see them should contact 911 immediately.
Those who have information about the suspects can submit tips with phone calls or texts at 215-686-TIPS (8477). Tipsters also can use this electronic form to submit tips anonymously, police said, adding that all tips are confidential.
Police added that anyone with information about this crime or these suspects can contact the Central Detective Division at 215-686-3093/3094 and ask for Det. Callahan.
