Senator Patrick Leahy proposed a new law called the “Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act” (COICA). Some people think this law is not good because it would allow the Attorney General and the Department of Justice to shut down certain websites. They would do this by making it so Internet users can’t access those websites anymore. This would happen one website at a time. Companies like domain registrars, ISPs, DNS providers, and others would have to help the government do this.
