BLUF: Montana is currently on trial in a constitutional climate lawsuit, with 16 young plaintiffs alleging that the state has violated their right to a healthy environment through pro-fossil fuel policies that have exacerbated the effects of climate change. The plaintiffs detailed personal experiences such as worsened asthma, deteriorating hunting and fishing stocks, threats to Indigenous cultural practices, and reduced snowfall that affects a plaintiff’s job as a ski instructor. While the state argued that its emissions are “too minuscule” to make a difference in the climate crisis, those in favor of the lawsuit emphasized the need for urgent action and explained the disproportionate impact on young individuals.
