BLUF: The Government Accountability Office has initiated an investigation into the impact of offshore wind farms on the environment and various industries following public pressure from the increased number of deceased whales washing up on the east coast since 2017. Republican Representative Chris Smith of New Jersey requested the investigation, and other representatives have supported the probe. Despite the denial from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, concerns persist regarding the link between offshore wind development and whale deaths. At least 14 whales have been found dead along the New York and New Jersey coast this year.
