BLUF: Patients’ assessment of expertise in clinical trial recruitment is influenced by appearance cues, message attributes, and the recruiter’s associated history with the study. The credibility of the clinical research coordinator’s employer and the appearance of recruitment materials and clothing also play a role in establishing expertise. Additionally, the way information is communicated, both verbally and nonverbally, is crucial in creating judgments about the credibility of the researcher. Nurses and other healthcare professionals wearing medical-related clothing instill trust in patients, while clothing branded with the academic medical center’s logo supports perceptions of credibility. It is important for the attire to be professional and appropriate for the environment. Clothing may also signal status to research participants, contributing to a sense of trust and confidence.
