BLUF: Washington has implemented a new policy that removes the requirement for hospitals to report all drug-exposed infants to Child Protective Services. Instead, hospitals will assess if the newborn is in immediate danger and only report if necessary. The policy aims to improve infant care by focusing on the “Eat, Sleep, Console” plan, which may lead to earlier discharge for newborns compared to the previous method.
