Privacy concerns can be addressed through decentralized systems that protect sensitive information on individuals’ smartphones. The implementation of contact-tracing apps was initially met with resistance from governments, but eventually, they were deployed and proved helpful. The delay in integrating the apps and the focus on healthcare provision during the pandemic led to the perception of their failure. However, it is crucial to acknowledge their potential and include them in pandemic-preparedness plans to prevent future outbreaks.
